Despite the fact that most of the information about the new third-generation SKODA Fabia hatchback was revealed back in the summer of 2014, officially the novelty was presented to the public only in the fall in Paris. It is planned that sales of the new hatchback in Europe will begin in the first months of 2015. However, in Russia, model sales will begin no earlier than the third quarter.

The appearance and interior of the hatchback

The hatchback of the third generation uses the platform of the second generation model that has undergone modernization and the base of the VisionC concept car demonstrated in the spring of 2014.

The exterior of the hatchback Skoda Fabia III has undergone significant changes. First of all, the new generation model has become wider – now the car’s width is 173.2 cm, having lost as much as 3 centimeters in height, which is now 146.8 cm. The body length has also decreased, but only by 9 mm to 399.2 cm. the width of the wheelbase – after an increase of 5 mm, is 247 cm. Thanks to the changes that the third generation underwent, it was possible to reduce the weight of the machine in the basic configuration by 40 kg.

The changes affected not only the dimensions of the car, but also its appearance as a whole. Now Skoda Fabia has become more dynamic and a little cheeky thanks to its sharp shapes. Thanks to these new features, it became clear that the manufacturer is betting on the youth segment of buyers.

The interior of the new hatchback has remained the same conservative, a little harsh materials are still used for decoration. But to say that the interior remained the same is impossible – the ergonomics have significantly changed. So the landing of all seats, including the rear ones, became much more comfortable, we managed to improve visibility from the driver’s seat, the center console became more convenient, and the gear selector is now located a little closer to the driver.

The equipment of the model has also changed – so the buyer has access to three different multimedia systems, several different options for combining fabrics for decoration, a panoramic roof and some other no less interesting elements, thanks to which you can choose a car that meets all the requirements.

Despite the fact that the range of power units declared for the third-generation hatchback is quite wide, not all of them will be available to Russian motorists. Opens this line MPI liter powerplant with three cylinders and a capacity of only 60 hp A slightly modified version of this engine is also available, the power of which is already 75 hp. A little more powerful is the 1.2-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine. The power of this unit depends on the degree of forcing and can reach not only 90, but also 110 hp. In the third-generation Fabia hatchback engine range, there is a place for diesel power plants, which are represented by a TDI turbo unit with three cylinders and a displacement of 1.4 liters. This power unit has three modifications that differ in power – models with powers of 105, 90 or 75 hp are available to motorists.

Unfortunately, it will not be possible to buy a hatchback on a diesel engine in Russia, but instead, the manufacturer offers the Russian buyer a 1.6-liter aspirated with four cylinders and an engine power of 105 hp. Moreover, for this option, only an automatic transmission with six steps is available. For hatchbacks of other modifications, both a manual gearbox with 5 and 6 steps and a DSG robotic transmission with 7 ranges are available.

The exact indicators of fuel consumption are not yet known, but it is assumed that a gasoline engine with a volume of 1.2 liters will consume about 6 liters, and a diesel engine with 105 hp. – about 3.5 liters per 100 km.

The new generation Fabia is based on the PQ26 platform, which is essentially a large-scale modernization of the previous generation chassis. The front suspension of the car is represented by a MacPherson strut, and the rear suspension is a semi-dependent suspension with a torsion system.

The hatchback brake system is represented on the front axle by brake discs with ventilated mechanisms and drum brakes on the rear. Steering gear Fabia III – rack and pinion, equipped with an electro-hydraulic amplifier.

With the start of sales, the buyer will be available with various configurations, which may include active type cruise control, all kinds of sensors, and the ESC system, and keyless access. A car of maximum equipment can even control the degree of fatigue of its driver. Most of this equipment has not previously been used in cars of this class. The cost of a car in various trim levels in Russia is not yet known, but it is planned that the price of a car in Europe will start from 12,000 euros.
