But there is one complication in the DSG transmission – the mechatronics unit. It is located inside the gearbox, it heats up quite a lot, and sometimes the electric valves fail. Also widespread is the mechatronics problem of the DQ250 gearbox, such as a malfunction of the transmission control unit (TCM).

This usually happens when the temperature of the transmission oil exceeds 40 degrees Celsius. In this case, we will see the error code “18222 P1814 Pressure control valve 1 (N215): open circuit / short circuit to ground” or other codes that imply a short circuit to ground for other valves.

The most common symptoms of a mechatronics malfunction:

• Flashing “PRNDS” indicator on the dashboard and switching the box to neutral gear.

• It is difficult to engage first gear from a stationary state. Sometimes this can be caused by a failed clutch calibration – in this case you can save the situation by recalibrating with the VCDS diagnostic adapter.

• A heavy downshift – from third to second and from second to first – is accompanied by loud clanging sounds.
