How to check the quality of gasoline

It’s very important to choose high-quality gasoline for your car, perhaps even more important than oils and other technical fluids, since it is quite difficult to run into left-hand oil, and we pour gasoline if not every day, then several times a month for sure.

At present, finding good quality gasoline is quite problematic. Especially if you spend a lot of time on business trips to unfamiliar regions of Russia and the CIS countries. Knowledge of other people’s gas stations is minimal. The risk of “running into” falsified gasoline is maximum. But even if you have developed the habit of refueling the car in the same place, there is a risk that the engine will not like gasoline, since the quality of gasoline at one gas station can vary over time or even depend on the weather. To make sure that the gasoline at the gas station you have chosen is of good quality, you can use the OKTIS-2 device, which allows you to quickly determine its quality in domestic conditions.

The device is designed to determine the octane number of motor gasoline grades AI-80, AI-92, AI-95, AI-98. The principle of operation of the device is based on the dependence of the dielectric constant of gasoline on the value of its octane number, measured by a research method.

The device can operate both in flowing mode during filling gasoline into a car tank at a gas station, and in the mode of immersion in fuel.

At its core, the device is an indicator, gives the owner primary, preliminary information about the quality of gasoline, allows you to protect the car from gross errors during refueling, and is not intended to be used as a measuring tool in the event of a contentious or conflict situation regarding the quality of gasoline at a gas station.

How to check gasoline using OKTIS-2

Place of use – gas station

Method of use – flowing

  • insert the filling gun into the measuring tube of the device
  • turn on the device
  • pour 5-10 liters of gasoline into the tank
  • see the result on the device screen
  • if the deviation of the octane number of gasoline is within ± 1.5 units from the declared at the gas station – you can continue to refuel
  • if the deviation is more than ± 1.5 units – it makes sense to use the services of another gas station

Usage Method – Immersion

  • pour gasoline into any convenient container with a volume of more than 80 ml
  • turn on the device
  • immerse the appliance in gasoline
  • see the result on the device screen
