Automatic transmission instructions

I’m thinking about buying a car with an automatic transmission. I climbed the Internet in search of operating tips and drew up approximate instructions for automatic transmission. Check out who used the machine.

Touching
It is better to turn on the ignition in position P (Parking – parking) (it is also possible in N (Neutral – neutral), but then the car may suddenly start). Before starting the movement, you must press the brake pedal and switch to the desired driving mode D or R. After a slight push, you can remove your foot from the brake and start moving.

Traffic
We move forward to D (Drive – the main mode). At the same time, it is harmful to constantly press the pedal to the floor, as this reduces the durability of the transmission. A calm driving style is good for your automatic transmission. With a sharp gas pressure during movement, it is possible to force a downshift (kickdown), this can significantly improve the dynamics of acceleration. Just remember that frequent use of kickdown reduces the life of the automatic transmission. Switching the driving modes is necessary only when the vehicle is stationary and with the brake depressed. There is an opinion that when moving the lever from position D to R (Reverse – reverse) and back, a delay should be made in position N. But experts assure that it is erroneous, because during such actions the automatic transmission is forced to operate once again, which leads to accelerate the development of its resource.

Stop
For short stops (for example, at traffic lights) it is NOT recommended to move the lever to position N. It is also not recommended to do this for coasting. Range N is only needed for towing a car. By the way, towing a car with automatic transmission is possible only as a last resort at a low speed and a short distance (for this they even came up with the 50×50 rule – no further than 50 km and at a speed of no higher than 50 km / h). When parking for a long time, you need to switch to position P. The locking mechanism included while this will keep the car even on significant slopes.
