Peugeot 508 – First Class First Time
The new Peugeot 508 immediately replaced a couple of cars. Traditionally, in many automotive companies, everything looks different, because the developers are trying to expand the range, and not vice versa.
Apparently, Peugeot is no longer inclined to conduct controversial experiments and instead of continuing to invest huge amounts of money and potential in new-fangled design, engineers turned to the “good old classics”.
And the problem is not with designers at all. Thanks to the technical creativity of many of them, cars were massively rolled off the assembly lines of the company, one more beautiful than the other. These are serial, but about concepts, including the development of a sports orientation, in general, we are not talking.
So the developers of the company decided to “hit the 2 goals with one woodcock”, having decided to replace, of course, the bright, but provoking heap of questions of the 407th, in the company with 607th, a single model – Peugeot 508. The machine is designed to satisfy all user requirements, and for not too demanding French motorists, to appear as a performer of multifaceted functional tasks, and arrange both businessmen and government officials of various ranks. Therefore, the main bet in the exterior was made on the solidity and presentability of the 508th. As a result, the car was not only successful, but also allowed to significantly reduce the financial investments of the company in the development of the auto business.
Peugeot 508 in the sedan body is superior in length to the 407th model (10 cm), but inferior to the 608th (11 cm). Universal version 508 does not significantly change these values. The installation of hybrid powertrains in cars of the highest price segment is considered a progressive trend, and Peugeot is no exception. Therefore, in the 1st generation, under the hood of the 508 model, a diesel ICE (92 hp) and an electric motor (an analog of Citro e n C4) were placed.
This was followed by the installation of a new modification with the Hybrid 4 system, which is very expensive and technically difficult. The main unit was a “diesel” (2.0 liters) with twin turbocharging, and an electric motor (37 forces) was placed at the stern of the car. This hybrid provides the car with powerful traction, moreover, on both axles. What is most interesting, this generation can alternately function with all types of drive, and for the flagship of the brand this is a very valuable advantage.
