But after a run of 120-130 thousand kilometers (data are approximate, it all depends on the operating and maintenance conditions of the car), the car owner may feel that “the car began to go somehow wrong …”.
And once, turning on the gear and pressing the gas, he will be surprised: the car will start to pick up speed somehow slowly and reluctantly.
The cause of the malfunction in the photo below: the needle bearing is destroyed.
The photo shows that the bearing collapsed and a few “needles” are missing.
The space inside the automatic transmission is closed, the “needles” flying out of the cage fall under other moving parts of the automatic transmission, for example, under the satellites, and the freewheel starts to rotate along the “crown”.
As a result of this, axial clearances between clutches and planetary gears are violated, since this end bearing is the “support”

After reviewing the complaints of the owners of such cars, the company changed some parameters of this needle bearing: the areas of the “needles” of the bearing and the seat under them were increased.
As a result, a malfunction called “Destruction of a needle bearing and the resulting consequences” was eliminated by the Manufacturer, now such automatic transmissions rarely come specifically because of this malfunction, it is the turn of other malfunctions, for example, destruction of the clutch pistons:
This refers to the “destruction of rubber seals due to non-compliance with the temperature regime” (in the photo this element is at the top and right).
This malfunction arises for the following reason: the driver either does not conduct timely maintenance, or, if he does not have time to go to maintenance, does not check the condition of the radiator (as you know, the radiator in the car consists of two parts: the upper part is used to cool the motor, and the lower part is the radiator for cooling the oil for automatic transmission * ATF fluid).
The rubber on the pistons becomes “glass” (dubbed) and ceases to create the required pressure for the automatic transmission to work properly.
The driver at such moments feels the “slippage effect” at the beginning of the movement or when picking up speed (the speed goes up, but the gear does not switch to higher gear).
And when the oil (ATF liquid) is heated, the pressure does not hold, and then another effect begins: “Burning discs”.
All this happens due to non-observance of MOT regulations: the driver must know that the radiator requires regular maintenance, especially during the flowering period, for example, poplars: the fluff flying through the streets gets into the radiator, accumulates and creates a reliable barrier for air, which should cool the radiator when car movement.
On this box, another malfunction may occur: the seals are destroyed due to the lack of the required minimum oil level (ATF liquid).
Specifically, on this automatic transmission: the driver felt a malfunction in the “N-D” transmission; first felt the blows when shifting gears, and at the beginning of the movement he heard extraneous noise (you can imagine the level of this “noise” that even in the cabin it was heard).
There is a common mistake when repairing an automatic transmission (not only with the described malfunction).
And this mistake lies in the fact that repairmen usually “rest” only on a specific malfunction, they are aimed at eliminating specifics and for some reason do not at all consider the possible consequences.
And it’s not difficult to predict them: you just need to think and imagine an algorithm not only for the occurrence of a malfunction, but also for the possible consequences.
Usually “one malfunction does not come”, it can affect the operation of all elements of the gearbox.
For example, if only a defective needle bearing were replaced during the repair of this box, and all other things were not paid attention, then such a “repaired” box would not take long.
Why did I quote the word “repaired”.
Because it’s “as if not a repair”.
ATG-service does not repair gearboxes like this: for every repaired automatic transmission, a quality guarantee is given.
How is a high level of quality achieved: if the gearbox is being repaired, then during the repair process it is carefully examined all gearbox elements, not just those that really need replacing.
But here there may be friction with the client, he may think that he is “bred for extra money.” I’ll give a similar example, though it doesn’t apply to our topic about automatic transmission, but it’s similar and noteworthy.
The case was recently held at the dealership: the client hung over the master-receptionist and angrily says that “she doesn’t need to spin it up for unnecessary repairs, she only needs to repair the climate control in her Hyundai”.
The master acceptor calmly says (it is necessary to give credit to this person that he didn’t make a cry, but calmly continued to convince her) that “the cause of the malfunction lies in the sensor and the connector, which are” completely green “, that is, oxidized, but in the sensor itself -for this, the contact has fallen off and the sensor must be changed “.

And what to do in this case?

If the Master replaced only the crumbled needle bearing, and did not pay attention to everything else, then after assembly such a box would have passed a little: the “rubberized” rubber on the piston would cause the clutch discs to “burn and burn”.

2. 3. If the specialists in the diagnosis and repair of automatic transmissions are not very experienced, then here they are at a standstill, they come with questions: “We are already changing the fourth solenoid, but we are failing.” The answer is: “You can change ten more solenoids, but nothing will change, the problem is not that”.
4. Fault code “according to the solenoid” – this can be both the solenoid itself and the hydraulic panel, as well as actuators.
5. There were no trouble codes on this Toyota Sienna, the first master diagnostician Sergey checked out the errors first — they weren’t there, then he checked the car’s operation and saw that “the tachometer is going up and the car is not accelerating”.
