The release of this model started in the second half of 2009, almost immediately after the international truck exhibition in Hanover. The first official name of the model sounded like a Volkswagen Pickup Concept; later it was decided to rename this model to Volkswagen Amarok.
The development of this model was carried out from scratch and lasted more than one year. The dimensions of this machine are enormous: so its length is 5255 mm, its width is 1944 excluding side mirrors, the model is 1835 mm high. Very impressive size is not it. The maximum weight indicated for transportation is 1.2 tons, and this can still be added to this cargo on board, the ability to automatically pull a trailer for 3 tons.
The first version of this model was five local and two-cab, in the future plans of the developers to create a version of this car but with one cab.
As mentioned earlier, the car was created from scratch, which means that the platform was created only for him and was not borrowed from anyone. This platform was based on a ladder structural frame, the most robust in the Volkswagen model range, and it is this very body that is the supporting part. Independent front suspension equipped with transverse springs and levers. The rear is equipped with a rifled spring bridge with 5 leaf springs or 2 leaf springs.
The exterior of the model is fully consistent with the style of the Volkswagen brand: fog lights built into the bumper, a massive even bulky fake radiator grille is limited to the main headlights giving the car an aggressive look.
The interior of the car is quiet and comfortable, the interior is very spacious, it is felt in the rear seats. As for the trim, it is made with quality materials, without any frills.
The rear row of seats can be folded, creating additional space for transporting luggage.
The heart of the Volkswagen Amarok was a 2-liter 4-cylinder diesel engine with a capacity of 122 l / s. A feature of this unit was a turbocharger with a function of changing the geometry of the turbine. The consumption of such an engine is 7.5 liters. This unit works with a 6-speed manual and front-wheel drive. There is also another diesel unit that comes only in the top configuration of the car. It is the same as the first two liter, but equipped with a direct fuel injection system, in addition, it has the equipment for adjusting triple turbocharging. Thanks to this, at just 1,500 rpm, the machine is able to develop a torque of 400 Nm. Fuel consumption per 100 km in this model differs from the first by only 0.1 liters – 7.6 liters.
Both versions of engines are available for the Russian market, only the first more common.
