When the car that is needed daily stops driving normally, what does the owner do first? Right! He opens the Internet and begins to search. What do you think, how many percent of luck will he have?

Well, for example … let’s look for the phrase “Volkswagen Passat … does not pull. ” The answers are impressive? Let’s see the answers:
– Solyara definitely.
– Turbine! Don’t even worry, I had something like that!
– Forget everything and see the flow meter!

And so on and so forth. Damn it, why do people think that all faults can be on one person? Yes, they may be similar, they may have the same symptoms, but the roots of the problem are different! It’s like pills – they will help one, and the other will be driven into the coffin.

This Volkswagen came to our car service from another car repair shop, where people are seriously engaged in fuel equipment. There they made a diagnosis and saw a “constantly hanging error on the boost system” (supposedly, there is no pressure in the turbine). And the car was redirected to us.

Rechecked the condition of the car. The control unit complained about the turbine control valve and the EGR control valve all the time (these are two pneumatic modulators that are located under the hood near the windshield, both are controlled by the vacuum that goes to the EGR vacuum valve and the turbocharger / turbine geometry control vacuum drive).

How was the verification carried out:
· First of all, the resistance of the valves themselves was checked – the norm. Moreover, according to the owner (and in appearance), it became clear that the product was recently replaced.
· Checking from an external power source (why this was done – you already guessed) – the norm
· Checked power at connectors – normal
· We get control on the control contacts
· We see a “good, bold plus” – it’s strange that the defect really lies in the control unit?!

I would not want to do this at all: this car is equipped with a Siemens control unit, which is not very easy to repair …

We must look for … (“we must dig!” – This will be more accurate in terms of emotional intensity). We get into the repair deeper and deeper.

We remove the plastic overlay near the windshield (to get to the control unit) and we have a wonderful picture:

Usually at such a moment it is pronounced: – Yeah, that’s where the dog rummaged!

But we are not on stage, there are no spectators, so about the “dog that rummaged here” – it’s all in the mind – at such moments feelings and attention just worsen (did you also see the place where the “dog rummaged”? Well, probably … it’s hard not notice traces of oxidation on the body of the control unit …).

Disconnect the connectors of the control unit …

And we start checking by contacts … Re-and carefully check the signals on the control connectors of the valves. It turns out that the control contacts sit tightly on the power contacts!

So. It’s clear that it’s a little lucky here – it’s not a defect of the control unit anymore, it’s something else, it’s easier and a little nicer, but we haven’t got to the bottom of it yet – we’re!

The wiring is dismantled. Along the way, it is noted that some contacts, connectors have traces of oxidation:

A related question arises: “Did this car learn to swim?” It hurts a lot to accept this indicates. During the dismantling of the wiring, we reach the connecting plug:

No, this car definitely once learned to swim. And it was not just a “small rain”, but serious training in swimming: the connector has rubber seals. It’s difficult or impossible to get through them simply by the rain, but if swimming … it’s understandable that moisture has entered through rubber seals. And then what happens?
· The oxidation data turned out to be good conductors of electric current between the contacts

Repair connector? Take a magnifying glass, arm yourself with a soldering iron, small tweezers and go?

No, to hell with such asceticism. It is much simpler, and most importantly, more technologically advanced to cut this connector and replace it with a similar one – which was done. After the final assembly, a test was run with diagnostic equipment, everything is ok, then the engine was started, everything is fine too.

The task is completed, the malfunction is eliminated. But interesting: – And where did the car swim?
